This is my favorite picture book of the year. Lovely and powerful. For all ages.
I appreciate the simple sketches that are so expressive and tell so much of the story. The colors are great too. I was surprised by the advanced vocabulary of the story and its length. I'd say it was for the upper reaches of the Caldecott award age range.
What a wonderful book. Lyrical use of language, evocative illustrations.
This illustrations in this book are captivating -- the color palette is so rich, and there is a great deal of expression and emotion portrayed. I agree with you, Dawn, that it's probably geared toward the older Caldecott age-range. I'd love to hear from someone who has shared this with a child.
